About the Author - Robert Smith

Robert and Geraldine This is me, Robert Smith, and my wife, Geraldine. I was a primary school teacher for 10 years, and a Headteacher for 13 years. Geraldine has retired as Headteacher of St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Brighton and now works as a part-time lecturer for Brighton University

I have been writing plays ever since I started teaching when I realised how valuable drama is for children. The wonderful thing about drama work for young people is that it can have truly life changing results.

Children grow in self-confidence: children who have never flourished in the classroom or on the sports field may discover a genuine talent and ability on a stage. I have seen it happen so many times. Drama makes a real difference to children's lives.

I am also a firm advocate of music for children but I recognise that many teachers lack the confidence to undertake music projects with their pupils. All my plays, bar one, have specially written songs and these are available on cd - designed to help all teachers, regardless of their musical skills.

I started writing plays because there was nothing suitable out there. I know what children are capable of and what appeals to them. I am still writing and my plays have been performed all over the world, by children and adults.

I have had work published by the BBC and Junior Education.

I have undertaken several commissions for new plays including two for Lottery Heritage funding schemes. My plays bring history to life for actors and audience alike. Contact me if you have specific ideas or requirements and I will try to help.

We live in the South East of England and have a grown up family.

I sing with the Brighton Festival Chorus and perform concerts in England and Europe. I teach an adults singing class in Brighton and I am the Choirmaster and resident composer for St Pancras Church Lewes.
