Part of Scene 1

Jack and the Beanstalk

Scene 1

NARRATOR 1:

Once upon a long ago,

Exactly when I do not know

The world was very different then

Knights wore armour, men were men

Of Wizards, dragons there were many

And princesses were ten-a-penny.

NARRATOR 2:

Magic often filled the air

Elves and dwarves were ev'rywhere

In fact it's very safe to say

Anything might come your way.

The story we're about to tell

Will demonstrate this very well.

NARRATOR 1:

Here's a mother and her boy (enter Jack and his mum looking gloomy)

There isn't much they can enjoy

They've got no money, it's all spent

They're broke, they cannot even pay the rent.

The bank won't lend them any more

They really are extremely poor.

NARRATOR 2:

They've sold the car, the telly's gone

Jack's toys have all gone, one by one

The only thing they own right now

Is a thin and ancient cow.

JACK'S MUM:

Jack, I don't know what to do

We're penniless, and we need food

If we don't eat soon I fear

We shall slowly disappear.

Song: Ev'ry day We're Getting Thinner

JACK:

Cheer up Mum and don't be sad

Things are really not that bad

The shops in town have loads to eat

What do you fancy, bread and meat?

JACK'S MUM:

But we haven't got a penny

JACK:
For what I plan, we won't need any.

JACK'S MUM:
Jack you mustn't break the law

Remember you got caught before

Stealing things just isn't right

We'll just go without tonight.

JACK:
That'll make a change then Mother,

Let me go, there'll be no bother.

JACK'S MUM:
No Jack no, you can't

JACK:
I can!

JACK'S MUM:
Anyway, I've got a plan.

There's a market in town now

Go down there and sell the cow!

JACK:
That old thing! Oh Mum that's great,

She's way past her sell-by date (exit Mum and Jack)
