Scene 1 The Mirror and Its Fragments
A wicked magician's workshop. One narrator stand sto one side of the stage, the other stands on the other side.
NARRATOR 1
You will have heard of magicians I am sure - Merlin and his connection with King Arthur, or Gandalf and his work with the Hobbits and I believe there is someone called Dumbledore who is quite famous these days. But I want to tell you all about a proper magician. Proper because s/he was very unpleasant, very very nasty. His/her name was Maledictis. (enter Maledictis on stage)
NARRATOR 2
Maledictis lived many many years ago and s/he ran a school of magic. S/he hatched a terribly cunning and terribly nasty plan.
MALEDICTIS
(ringing a bell and shouting) All pupils to the main workshop now. I want everyone here by the time I count to five….. or I shall turn you all into toads! One, two, three … (as s/he counts his/her pupils run onto the stage from all directions and come skidding to a halt in front of the magician where they sit down) four, five (as s/he finishes the last number one child runs on looking very scared)
PEREGRINE
Please, please please Maledictis, I’m sorry, I wasn’t really late....
MALEDICTIS
(waving his/her wand and speaking very grandly) May your insides all explode, I shall turn you into a ….. (more calmly) this time young Peregrine, I shall let you off. Sit down and stop snivelling!
NARRATOR 1
This horrid magician, who must have had a very unhappy childhood, had invented a mirror which could turn every good and lovely thing reflected in it to appear ugly and hideous.
NARRATOR 2
And every bad and useless thing to appear ten times larger and worse than they were.
